Colour colour everywhere...

Here are 4 rooms that exploit colour.
Personally, I prefer a more tonal approach, but these spaces work thanks to the white base.

Embroidery goes all mod-cultish...

I think we've all been touched by embroidery at some stage in our lives - be it the initialed hankie at primary school or the obsessed grandmother who had a hoop on the go at all times... Well, this is one old school handicraft that's come a long way baby!
From typographic birds...
and mini moustached men...
Penguin Books even got on board with a limited edition set of classics with embroidered covers...

There are personalised pieces on Etsy to be had...
Even paper is getting the treatment...
As with any craft, there's always an over-acheiver raising the barr...
But you don't have to be Picasso to get on the bandwagon...
Just use your imagination!
Get inspired...
And apply it anything you please! This one is a cake would you believe? That's got to test your patience!

2 x stunning contemporary kids feature wall ideas...

One mums solution to the "How can we jazz up those stark white walls?" question came in the form of a myriad of coloured felt circles glued to the wall. They've been arranged as a cascade of rainbow colourful balls bouncing down the wall. This idea is pure genius in its simplicity.

Equally simple. Equally clever. Giant animal shapes cut from vintage wallpaper roam the walls of this play space, creating delight for the senses of the kidlets who get to play here. Think of the incredible imaginary games and stories that would be created in a space like this!

NEW! Alice mirrors from Noosh!

Here's a little something Sheridan and I have been working on. I'm practically jumping out of my skin with excitement to be able to finally show you!
They're our new Alice Mirrors! They're made from mirrored acrylic which means they're lightweight, kid-safe and shatterproof. There are two designs to choose from, "When I grow up..." and "Rise & shine". You can own your very own Alice for $119 from the Noosh website from September, or drop us an email at info@noosh.com.au to pre-order so you don't miss out...

Easy DIY Shelving: Genius and stunning too!

Aside from the fact that this easy DIY project is obviously grey, it also scores major points for it's clever design. The process is pretty simple too!
1. You'll need to plan and measure this out carefully before you begin cutting. You'll need:
*17 x lengths of square cut timber all cut to the width you want
*5 x lengths of raw pine the width you want your shelves and the profile of the gaps between your bars
*2 x lengths of timber to act as posts - your bars will attach to these so they need to be cut to the measurement of the following: the profile of your bars x # of bars + size of gaps x # of gaps.  The shelves should snugly slot into the gaps between the bars and can be positioned anywhere along the width! Easy!
Hopefully those instructions are understandable. I'd really like to have a go at this one myself.
Sorry! I've no idea where I found this image. If it's yours let me know and I'll credit you.

Kids only mudroom

Oh the decadence! A mudroom at all is something to behold in Australia (especially here in Sydney's Inner West!), but one dedicated to the kiddos is beyond comprehension! And tell me, how do they keep that living room so clean and white with wee ones in the house?

The perfect teenagers retreat

While I don't have any teenagers myself just yet (cue sigh of relief), I do remember a thing or two about what I wanted when I was one, and this space is pretty much it. The late 60's design Eero Aarnio Bubble Chairs are the centrepiece of the rooms which are divided by a sliding door system that can be slung wide open for social moments and closed up for private study. Genius.
Walk-in robes keep untidiness well hidden, and the loft area creates an additional level of privacy for temperamental teens. Even the grumpiest teenager would have to admit that this is one pretty amazing design...

Black room for kids. Thumbs up or down?

I just adore this room. What an incredible mix of contemporary and vintage design elements. Black in a childrens space is always going to polarising, but you have to admit, here it's been done well, and whether you find it contraversial or not, it works. The canary mantle that hangs so comfortably even without its fireplace creates a real spectacle of the gorgeous linograph style horse artwork that hangs above it, and the splash of colour sets the tone of visual "pops" around the space. It's complimented nicely too by the Eames rocker which works so well at bringing the contemporary and vintage elements together within the room.
What a juxtaposition between this antique style four-poster cot and the strikingly bold monochrome feature wallpaper! Oh I do wish I had the courage to create such wonderful design contrasts in a room...
The dresser seals the deal for me. I scour ebay every available moment to find pieces like this. So far they only seem to exist in Melbourne and the states... (insert sad face here). I'd probably lose the light fitting, but as the only piece in the entire scheme that I don't love, I won't take any points off for it. What do you think? Love it? Can't get past the black? Do you think black is too harsh for kidlets?

The cheap activity that'll keep kidlets amused for hours

No, I'm not kidding! It's true! It's cheap. It's easy. It's actually pure genius.
I came across this one over at Filth Wizardry. In a nutshell, take one disposable plastic tablecloth (found in your supermarket party section for around $2), some sticky tape, textas and a good dose of imagination and you're off and running. Hop over here for the full tutorial, and while you're there, take a look around. Lindsey is bursting with great ideas for preschoolers.

Rainbow slide

We've all seen them, indoor slides come in many shapes and sizes. I even saw one the other day that had been integrated into the architectural design of the house and ran around the perimeter of the whole building from the top floor to the bottom in four stages! I'm not sure I'd go to such extremes for my own kids... However, none of the ones I've seen to date have been so thoughtful in their decorative detail as this one. Loving the graphic red arrow almost as much as I'm loving the names of the colours of the rainbow painted onto the rises of the stairs in helvetica. Nice touch.
