6 x dreamy eclectic kids rooms

Nobody with any real design sense ever said that everything must match. It's often the rooms that don't conform strictly to any one look that have the most personality and work the best!

One for the grown ups...

Today I just needed a little break from all things kiddo, so I've been swooning over pretty vintage adult spaces for inspiration...

3 vintage lovelies

Everything old is new again and it couldn't make me happier. Vintage pieces have so much character and add such a gorgeous element of warmth to a room. Here are 3 fabulous, but all very different, vintage looks to be inspired by...

Trash or treasure?

The answer to that question lies in the same location that beauty is kept. At first glance this twisted crooked old chair looked a lot like trash to me - but then it grew on me... the drawers on the other hand I loved instantly.

I love Scandanavian style...

Black room for kids. Thumbs up or down?

I just adore this room. What an incredible mix of contemporary and vintage design elements. Black in a childrens space is always going to polarising, but you have to admit, here it's been done well, and whether you find it contraversial or not, it works. The canary mantle that hangs so comfortably even without its fireplace creates a real spectacle of the gorgeous linograph style horse artwork that hangs above it, and the splash of colour sets the tone of visual "pops" around the space. It's complimented nicely too by the Eames rocker which works so well at bringing the contemporary and vintage elements together within the room.
What a juxtaposition between this antique style four-poster cot and the strikingly bold monochrome feature wallpaper! Oh I do wish I had the courage to create such wonderful design contrasts in a room...
The dresser seals the deal for me. I scour ebay every available moment to find pieces like this. So far they only seem to exist in Melbourne and the states... (insert sad face here). I'd probably lose the light fitting, but as the only piece in the entire scheme that I don't love, I won't take any points off for it. What do you think? Love it? Can't get past the black? Do you think black is too harsh for kidlets?

Come fly with me - boys bedroom

So many gorgeous details! Starting with that upcycled pallet bedhead!!! Loving the two tone walls, paper plane decal, the maps fashioned into a generous rose wheel to greet you as you enter the room... All soo so lovely. Upcycle inspiration: Pallets

I find the inspiration bug is the most infectious. Lately, I've been stricken with this bug in a big way. My friend Jules is obsessed at the moment with making a coffee table from old pallets, and being a project I've always wanted to do, I've been caught up in the hunt for ideas. Here are some of the best upcycle projects I've found for reusing old timber pallets...
The hanging wall display

The bedhead

The bed base (with storage!)

Coffee table #2

The rustic buffet/wine storage cabinet

My favourite (it's grey!) - the island bench

A vertical planter

A room divider/Gallery wall

Bright vintage

Vintage doesn't have to be about pretty pastels and flat white - these 3 rooms are as bright as a button!
