Perfect pink playhouse

Every once in a while I see something that makes me wish I had an excuse (read: girl) to paint the walls in pink. This is one of those times. Even I'd get excited about having this cubby kitchen in my room. Just how fabulous can a child's cubby be? And the rest of the room isn't bad either. That shade of pink is divine.

Brock's brocc house

Once upon a time, there was a man named Brock. Brock always wanted to build a cubby-house for his little boy. He wanted it to be high up in a perfect tree, and he wanted it to be grand. Sadly though, Brock and his boy lived in a high density apartment building with no garden of their own and such a dream was just that - a dream. So one night after his son had gone to bed, Brock set to work with the most perfect stem of broccoli he could find in his fridge. He planned and he carved and he cut and he glued, all night long until the sun came over the horizon out his 11th floor window. Just as the boy woke up and sleepily wandered out of his room, Brock completed his task. He presented the miniature cubby-house to his son with tear-filled eyes, for in building this gift, he also fulfilled a dream....
Well, that's the story I'd like to believe is behind this clever creation. The man who made it really is named Brock (ironically), and he did build it for his son because he couldn't build a real one, but that's where the truth of my story ends. Somehow I like my version better... I like to fill in the gaps...

Bring the tent indoors

Brrrrr it's cold in Sydney this morning! A perfect day for this idea...

I find my boys love things that aren't quite the way they're supposed to be. They find it riotously funny to wear odd socks, run backwards, eat ice cream from a cup - and pitching a tent in the living room falls quite safely into that category. With all the rain we've been having it actually seems to be a worthwhile idea...

Ultra cool outdoor play

Is that the coolest outdoor play space you've ever seen? I'm loving it! It's space sensitive design is perfect for small courtyards (and we've got plenty of those in sydney don't we?) and it's actually nice to look at too! I'm storing this one away for our next house...

Treehouse treehouse, a house up a tree...

I've always wanted to build a cubby house. It used to be a dream I had for myself to play in - but now, my plans involve the delight of my boys... so, from cute cubbies to crazy custom-builds, here's a collection of houses in the trees...

Book Nook...

Can you imagine a more lovely nook to while away the hours with your favourite book? Somebody bring me a cup of tea please? (and please tell me this child isn't playing a DS but actually reading a book...)

Make it: Table cubby

I love this idea. You could do it with glue if you weren't big on sewing...
I should do one... it might make me keep the dining table clean...

Want this: Lubbly cubby

I love every inch of this cubby. From the bold Hermes orange colour choice and picket fence to the barn style door and dainty potted colour. Do you think upstairs is off limits for girls? I'm getting that impression...

Make it: Simple Stylish Teepee

I love love love it! The tent, the bedding, the hat, the garden... It's even that really lovely soft grass! I may need to live here...
But don't be fooled by how perfect this all looks! There's no need to pay over $200 to have one of these in your garden this summer. It's so incredibly easy to make one and if you get the kids involved in the process it'll become a memory they'll look back on fondly.

First a trip to Bunnings for 4 bamboo poles - roughly $3-4 each (usually found in the gardening section for staking tomatoes and such).  Second, dig out an old sheet, or you could pick up a cotton painters drop sheet for under $10 while you're at Bunnings. These can actually be great because they have a real linen-ey/canvas look about them. Stake your poles into the ground at angles so they meet and cross over slightly at the top like the pic and secure the joint with strong twine. and then wrap your fabric around the frame , gathering it at the top, leaving an opening on one face for entry and secure with old nappy pins/pegs or bulldog clips (whatever you have around that will do the job!). Finally, fill with some cosy bedding, cushions and favourite books.

Very Smart Playhouses

Santa was thinking about buying H&N a cubby this christmas - but after looking into it, he decided our garden is a little small for what's on offer in the cubby house realm. However, if Santa had the option of picking up one of these divine little numbers locally, he may have chosen differently...

These. Are. The. Goods. Designed and manufactured by a company called Smart Playhouse you can find them here - be warned tough - the entire site is written in Spanish. As my Espagnol is noh-soh-goot I have absolutley no idea how much they are or if they ship internationally... Anyone out there linguistically talented in the South American way please feel free to enlighten me on these minor points! I just LOVE these designs...
