Sleep angels/angles - a photo tutorial

...no, not a typo. (I'm not that bad a speller!) This post is all about capturing those precious moments of purity and innocence on film and knowing how to photograph your wee one while they sleep.

To be honest, it's not something I've ever given much thought to. I do have a few shots of Hugh sleeping when he was a baby, (on my lap no less, amazing how much more time we had on our hands during those first few months of life with a newborn first child!) and they are very special pictures. Noah, not so many. Not so many shots in general actually. One of my resolutions for this year is to take more pictures of him. I remember having a friend in primary school who was convinced she was adopted because there were barely any family photos of her as a child - in hindsight as a parent, her mum was probably just too busy to sit around taking snaps of her kids with six of them under nine years of age!

If it's something you've ever tried, you might realise it can be a difficult project, so when I came across this fantastic tutorial full of cheats and tips for A-grade shots of your babies that you'll treasure for years to come, the first thing I thought of was sharing it with you! So hop across here to check it all out

I was also thinking it'd be great to share some of those sleepy baby Hugh pictures to inspire you. And if you have any you'd like to share send them to me at blog@noosh.com.au

Snapshot: Jessica Kettle

As some of you know, in my past life (pre-kidlets) I was an art director of magazines, and while my paid work has changed a little bit, my passion for what goes on both behind and in front of the camera hasn't changed at all. I love a great shot just as much as I ever did. Though I have to admit the subject matter has changed a little since the days when Hanson (I can't believe I just linked to that here...) were the big deal of the moment...

And so, today's post is a little taste of photo love from a great site belonging to Jessica Kettle. Jessica is based in the US but what a great business model. She'll take these intimate photos to record your personal birth story and create a custom book with them for you too! I wish we had something like this of our two boys births, it's very special. Check out the gorgeous shots! What an amazing way to spend your days - being a part of such special and intimate moments in strangers lives....

Turn your iPhone into a DSLR... Yes please!

I love that there are so many clever people in this world! One of these smarties has come up with the extra brilliant idea of creating a "mount" so you can attach your SLR lens to your iPhone! Wowzer! It works for Nikon and Canon and at just under $250 for an iPhone 4 (and even less for iPhone 3 users) it's got to be a hit doesn't it? Ok, I'll admit it looks kind of bulky - but compared to lugging the actual DSLR around this wins hands down... Damn it! It was my birthday last week! If you want one - hop over here to buy...

Just gorgeous right? These beautiful images are the work of photographer, Tara Donne. Tara shoots a lot for Martha Stewart Living and her style suits that title perfectly. I just love the languid, natural vibe she captures in every shot. Take a little look at these and then hop on over to her site here to see more of her gorgeous pictures.
